After Team Heretics, it will be KOI who will join the LEC in 2023 on League of Legends. Ibai and Pique’s team bought back part of Rogue’s slot.
A new page is turning in the clash between Spain and France on the LoL esports scene. For many months, fans of French team Karmine Corp and Spanish team KOI are bickering over which of the two countries is the biggest nation on the game. Two structures with similar paths, success stories of their countries, set up by influencers and who just as much wanted to join the LEC in 2023. If for the moment, the KC has not obtained a place for the upcoming season on League of Legends, the Ibai club has officially announced its arrival in the European elite and scores a point.
In addition to Team Heretics which took over the slot from Misfits Gaming, it will therefore be the KOI which will be at the start of the LEC Spring Split 2023 (as rumors had announced) thanks to a deal with Snape for a strategic partnership, which would be 40% and 20 million euros. For this first season with this deal, the team is therefore renamed KOI, but the rest of the structure and the coaching staff should not change for the moment. Streamer Ibai spoke about the takeover:
KOI is a team that was born in Spain, but this new agreement opens up a much wider field of action for them. All I can say is I hope all KOI fans open their arms to Rogue fans […] We will participate in LEC 2023 as KOI. This is all pending approval from Riot Games, but that’s the main idea. Rogue respected who we are as a company and who I am on a personal level. I will be in charge of all kinds of sponsorships and deals done under the KOI name. […] From March we received three offers from European teams and there was even one from North America. We also met investors who offered to take a slot into our account. But partnering with Snape was the best idea. We will try to make KOI the best team in the world.
The LEC 2023 will therefore have a new face since two new teams will be present, while waiting to find out who has been chosen to recover the Astralis slot, which is also on sale. Let’s hope that the Karmine Corp can announce a promotion in order to balance the now traditional Franco-Spanish fight.
