LoL: The missing League of Legends skins you’ll never be able to get legally

Skins are one of the most important elements of League of Legends since its launch. Riot Games took the gamble of creating a free-to-play game funded by user spending for new cosmetics for champions that provide no benefit in combat. The operation was extremely risky, but it paid off and, more than ten years later, we still speak of this title as one of the most successful in history. During this time, over 1,300 skins have been released, and as the entire community knows, some of them will never be available again.

How many impossible skins are there in League of Legends?

Players often make the mistake of overestimating the number of League of Legends skins that are no longer available. The numbers vary widely and are often very high — although admittedly they are not entirely wrong. However, the reality of skins that can no longer be purchased is less noticeable.

We’re not saying that there aren’t many very difficult skins to unlock, but if we only count those that are completely inaccessible, the number is only 21, of which 11 correspond to the end of season skins offered to players who have reached Gold rank or above.

Most Unobtainable Skins Are Ranked Rewards

Be careful, because this figure does not concern cosmetic products outside the shop. However, it is possible to obtain many skins that are not permanently available for sale.

For example, event skins disappear after a short time, but can be obtained through the Hextech crafting system — and can even return in the future directly to the shop. Additionally, there is a repeatable method to unlock some of the more unique skins. Pax, Urfwick, Championship Riven, Rusty Blitzcrank, and Riot Singed skins are given as rewards to players who have purchased all skins.

We would still have to decide if we want to include the original versions of the Prestige skins in the list. Riot Games made some changes for original cosmetic holders after introducing Fantasy Essences. In this way, even if it is only a few minor differences, we can consider them exclusive. If we did, we would have to add a total of 45 more skins to the list. However, given the few differences, it is up to everyone to take them into account or not. We haven’t included them in the list, but it’s a space that lends itself to interpretation.

When it comes to the 10 Unobtainable Skins, there’s a bit of everything. With the exception of Annie-Versaire, they were all released within the first two years of the game and most are part of special Riot Games promotions. To obtain them, it was necessary in particular to participate in the beta, to buy the physical edition of the game or the digital collector’s pack. In some cases, even League of Legends developers claim they won’t be able to sell them anymore because they would be breaking the law. A curious situation.

Below, you can find the list of all skins that can no longer be purchased but also their splashart:
