LoL: The perfect character according to a Rioter who will never receive changes to his spells

Most League of Legends characters have changed significantly since the game’s inception. Whether it’s due to design errors when the game was released or because the passage of time has hurt them terribly, Riot Games changed the abilities of dozens of champions through revamps or major updates. The developer even has a long catching up to do in the face of difficulties in responding to requests from the community. However, as with all rules, there is an exception here too, and it is very special. A perfect champion who has not changed and may never change.

The perfect champion according to a Riot Games employee

In one of his regular League of Legends design interviews, Riot August defined Morgana as the perfect character. He is an authority on the subject and, in addition to being one of the most experienced champion designers at the developer, he was responsible for carrying out what was to be its redesign in 2015. An update that ended with no change in skills due to a very curious situation: he realized that nothing he did could improve an already perfect set.

Morgana’s basic abilities are simple, but very effective

“I worked on Morgana’s redesign and realized she was perfect, there was nothing to change. She had a new ultimate, a new W, and even a new passive. I I had lots of ideas for them and I was experimenting. However, nothing was as good as what I already had. In the end, it’s perfect. That’s why so many people love it. It doesn’t was just not profitable to change anything”, explained the developer. Good old Auguste was not wrong at the time, since even seven years after the redesign attempt, it is still the second most played support and appears in nearly 11% of ranked games (all ranks combined).

Riot August continues: “People who play Morgana do it for a reason. They do it because they want an easy, straightforward character who does simple, powerful things. Press A, immobilize the enemy; press E, protect your allies ; press Z, do area damage. Also, the ultimate is very complex and interesting (…) Aesthetics help, but the kit has to be good for a character to be popular. If the kit doesn’t wasn’t there, people wouldn’t play her – people love Morgana’s abilities!”

The Complexity of Morgana's Ultimate Creates an Interesting Contrast - League of Legends
The complexity of Morgana’s ultimate creates an interesting contrast

Throughout the story, the only major change that Morgana has undergone is related to her passive. However, even this ability has not changed drastically, since in all its versions it was intended to increase the self-healing of the champion. First, she increased her HP regen, then her spell level drain, and finally, she recovered HP based on her ability damage and champion level. Nothing earth-shattering, as Riot Games never felt the need to make big transformations.

Based on how Riot Games has worked with this champion so far, it doesn’t look like there will be any major changes in the future. Visually, she’s not a character in dire need of an upgrade, and in terms of abilities, Rioter’s opinion was more than clear. She’s just one of those rare cases of perfect accomplishment that just needs a tweak once in a while.

We could well have a huge surprise in the LEC for the next competitive season of League of Legends… According to Wooloo, a Japanese player would be recruited by a European team! It would be a first and the idea makes us very curious.
