LoL: The Spaghetti Code strikes again, and a bug renders an item totally useless

While League of Legends started off as notorious for server instability, which is understandable given Riot Games’ humble beginnings and the sheer number of people who played it a decade ago, the reality is that the Californian studio’s MOBA is now associated with another concept: the “spaghetti code”.

Indeed, the game is several years old and, despite Riot’s efforts to update it, the more than 150 characters, the dozens of objects and the almost endless interactions between all the systems of League of Legends are still problematic. . It’s understandable that popping up a new relevant bug every week becomes a ritual.

A dubious concentration

Distant Focus

3,000 gold

+85 power

+15 Skill Acceleration

+150 HP

Hyper-centered shot : When you damage a champion with an untargeted skill more than 700 units away or when you slow/immobilize a champion, you reveal them and increase your damage against them by 10% for 6 seconds.

This item available in Summoner’s Rift has been causing issues for a while now. As reported by Reddit user VG_Crimson on the game forum it has been flawed since at least League of Legends Season 11.

This player has posted a video showing the problem, in which we can see that the error is precisely in his passive. This “10% increase in applied damage” is not real, as it does not take into account damage applied with basic attacks. In fact, the error goes even further, and the buff is not applied to the on-hit effects of Basic Attacks.

240 less damage

The player illustrates the situation with Elise and a combo with an additional damage bonus of 70… Whereas this value should have been 310 points. Again, he clarifies that the issue is with auto-attacks and that items with actives or damage buffs work correctly with Distant Focus.

According to the player, item changes in patch 11.23 are causing this bug. In addition to being a bug, the problem is that it no longer has any interest for many champions whose skills are based on basic attacks.

The start of League of Legends Worlds is in less than 2 months! For the occasion, the esport section of Riot Games has teamed up with Tiffany & Co. to reinvent the sacrosanct grail, the famous World Championship cup.
