If you are told Worlds video bangerthen you probably have a particular video that comes to mind. Many people will quote risewhich marked the spirits. Legends Never Die is also a competitor of choice, acclaimed by many spectators, while the most nostalgic will mention Warriors. Only in season 3, it’s not the Imagine Dragon clip that struck me the most, but another video. Maybe it’s because my personal tastes are strange, for example Worlds Collide is on the podium of my personal tierlist of Worlds music. And yet, there is not much going on in this videoand it’s no surprise that Riot Games isn’t bringing it back.
What is wrong
Well, simply the teams. This video was made long before the start of the Worlds of season 3, and it shows. Whether Fnatic and Gambit are good qualified in Europe, Alternate has never participated at the world championships, and these are the Lemondogs who won the precious ticket. Same in NA, where Dignitas has been outclassed by Vulcunwhile in China there were only two participating teamswhereas three were shown (same for NA, with a CLG player glimpsed at the start). In addition, of the three formations under the spotlight, only the OMG managed to make it to the Worlds.
As for Taiwan and South Koreait’s pompom because none of the featured teams qualified. The Taipei Azubu Snipers were outclassed by the Gamania Bearswhile the Korean teams were Samsung Ozone, Najin Black Sword and of course SKT T1. Well at least there was one Ryze…but it wasn’t not Faker. Nevertheless, even years later, this kind of misfortune can happen (yes a video of this kind is not made in 3 weeks), as evidenced by the presence of CoreJJ in Star Walkin’.
Why I find her so cool
Quite simply, becausea lot of players are represented. That each “star” of a team have the right to a few seconds of light, with a personification of his favorite champion, is just awesome. I’m not a fan of videos that focus only on a few playersas in Phoenix Where Star Walkin’. A World Cup is played with the 24 teams, not just 4 or 5 of them. Redoing videos in the style of that of the S3 could also make it possible to put a little forward some players from Wildcards regionswhich we never see in the clips of the Worlds.
Afterwards, it doesn’t want not say that Riot Games should exclusively make videos in this genre. The clip of Rise telling the journey of the previous winners, where the mythical actions shown in Ignite also speak to me. Legends Never Die also has its charm, even if the clip would work without it being the Worlds, so I’m quite hesitant to put it in this category… Of course, it would be possible to argue that Burn It All Down takes this concept a bitbut clearly the players’ on-screen time is far from fair. Without necessarily requiring that each player has exactly the same duration of presenceperhaps focusing more on duels (e.g. an NA player vs an EU, an EU vs a CH, an EU vs KR, a KR vs CH etc…) rather than on a few individuals could be an idea to dig into. Of course, there could be errors of anticipation, but is it really serious? Is Star Walkin’ a disaster because of CoreJJ’s presence? Personally, I doubt it…
