It was quite screaming last week during the Bo5 between fnatic and EXCEL Esports, on the networks, many hoped to see Fnatic fall. Still, the structure of Nukeduck is not particularly popular within the community, where Fnatic is a historic structure that has offered the LEC many memories from the past. One player on the team channeled much of the criticism: ADC Upset. On the official chat, there are countless copypastas to cut it. But why so many hate ? Several reasons explain this ambient animosity which surrounds the German.
Upset, the Worlds 2021 drama is not forgotten
Memory is something that works with variable geometry. If some have a short memory, the drama in which he found himself Upset last year during Worlds 2021 is still on many minds. As a reminder, the German had left his team just before the start of the competition for “personal reasons”, which he had not communicated to all of his teammates at the time. His last had to play with a substitute, bean, and the results had not been up to par. A player like Adam, dear to the French community, had experienced this episode very badly and a long and painful drama had resulted from it. Knowing that subsequently Adam and Nisqy were replaced, part of the fans continued to resent the German. The story telling likes to put this one in the role of the villain who put out players appreciated by the supporters.
We are not going to come back to this affair which has lasted too long, especially since since then the reason for leaving from Upset was revealed by his women. The situation was serious and with hindsight, one can easily understand why the German abandoned the competition while limiting his communication as much as possible. The problem is that the resentment is in tenacious feeling. Part of the community, not necessarily the brightest, continues to make fun of the player and his companion, considering him a traitor and one bad teammate. We are not going to epilogue, but this kind of attack does not make anyone grow.
Upset and the community, a relationship that was already complicated
But it should be noted that some already had a complicated relationship with Upset even before the Worlds 2021 drama. The player suffers from a somewhat austere, not to say arrogant player image. It must be said that he has been one of the best players in his position for several years and that he often displays a good dose of confidence. All great players have ego and that’s normal. But that of the CDA has sometimes been misinterpreted. For a long time, we even stuck the label of overrated. Despite its precociousness, however, it has an almost blank track record. He played playoffs and finals with Schalke 04, Fnatic or Origen, but he also had nightmarish segments… We note in his career an 8th place in Spring 2018 or a 10th place in Summer 2020.
It should also be noted that Upset has never really competed in the Worlds… He was qualified last year, but we know the rest. When you put everything end to end, some take malicious pleasure in seeing Upset perpetuate its image ofeternal disappointing hope. If this criticism is unfair to us, especially when we see the last games of the player, this kind of image is always very subjective.
Beyond Upset, Fnatic’s image is tarnished
The two are somewhat related, but Fnatic’s picture is also in poor condition. The structure, adored in the past, pays for its results (no title since 2018) and its sometimes questionable management. The case Self madethe case Adamthe case Nisqythe departures of caps and Rekkles for G2… The elements accumulate and the disenchantment has become more and more significant between the fans and the organization.
Upset serves as a bit of a scapegoat in this story, but when you combine the player detractors with the team detractors, you get a really big stream of negativity.
