The 2022 League of Legends World Championships is one of this year’s big esports events. After a half fig, half grape Play-In due to the defeat of the MAD Lions and the classification of Fnatic, the group stage of the Main Event promises to be very exciting, especially the day of last Saturday which entered the history of Europe.
The victories of LEC teams and the defeats of those of the LCK caused an unprecedented and never seen case in the competition even if the road is still long for the European formations.
Europe and Korea go down in Worlds history in their own way
As you can see in the image, what’s unusual on this day are Europe’s three wins in their League of Legends World Cup games. A lot of people don’t know or just haven’t made the connection, but that’s the first time in Worlds history that all European teams that qualified for the Main Event have won on the same day. Admittedly, there have already been days when European teams did not lose a match, but then one of our representatives was not playing.
When all the European representatives played on the same day, at least one of them did not know the victory. However, Europe is not the only region to have written a page in its history this Saturday, even if the second region would have preferred this page to remain blank.
The LCK shot down?
On Saturday evening, something unprecedented happened to the representatives of the LCK : for the first time in the history of the World Championships, all the teams representing South Korea lost their matches of the day. That might sound pretty unbelievable for a region, so it’s only the sixth time that at least one of their teams won’t finish the group stage undefeated (meaning that before this year, in every second World Cup , at least one Korean team did not lose a single match in pools).
Statistics level, a player also enters the story. Wunder is still one of the few players in the world to have managed to beat Faker at every time he faced him. It was certainly a historic day for the European League of Legends, but fans naturally prefer that their three representatives manage to break out of the groups.
