The defendant Russian opposition figure Vladimir Kara-Mursa regrets none of his statements – although he now faces 25 years in prison for comments against the war. “I sign every word that I said and for which I am being charged today,” a journalist quoted Kara-Mursa’s last words in court on Telegram on Monday. “Not only do I have no regrets – I’m proud of it”he continued.
Several allegations are made against the 41-year-old, including High treason and the dissemination of false information about the Russian army. In the past week, the Prosecutor asked for 25 years imprisonment.
“I only blame myself,” the Kremlin critic continued. “I have failed to convince enough of my compatriots and politicians in democratic countries of the dangerwhich represents the current Kremlin regime for Russia and the world.”
The verdict is expected next Monday. “I also know that the day will come when the darkness will lift from our country,” said Putin’s longtime opponent. “When war is called war” and “those who instigated and started this war are branded criminals, not those who tried to stop it.”
