Long Night of Choirs – choral event with 1,500 singers in Salzburg

The “Long Night of the Choirs” takes place on Wednesday at 19 venues in Salzburg’s old town.

Visitors can experience the joy and energy of singing together in Salzburg today. 1,500 singers will perform at the tenth “Long Night of Choirs”. The 68 choirs perform their favorite pieces for free at 19 venues. “Those who sing don’t think about war.” “People who like to sing don’t think about war and are not egoists. They sing and are happy about their community every week,” says Dieter Schaffer, President of the Salzburg Choir Association. The former transport operator (79) had the idea for the event ten years ago. With a bit of stubbornness he got through, smiles the singer of the “Salzburg Men’s Quintet”. Success proves him right. The “Long Night” has become Austria’s largest choral event. Six federal states are already doing the same. Today, people will be singing and listening in the left-hand old town for around twelve hours. Midday and early afternoon belong to the young: from 11 a.m. school choirs perform in the large university auditorium and then in the inner courtyard of the Alte Residenz. Starmania winner Anna Buchegger will be the star guest at 5 p.m. in St. Peter. From 7:30 p.m., choirs from all over the state will sing at 19 locations. In St. Peter, children end the festival at 10:30 p.m. The program booklets are available at the information stand there.
