- Attention time change: Daylight saving time started on Sunday night. The evenings are getting lighter again.
- At 2 a.m., the clocks in Switzerland were put forward to 3 a.m., as in most European countries.
- According to the Federal Institute for Metrology (Metas), daylight saving time ends on the last Sunday in October.
In recent years, a possible abolition of the seasonal time change has become a topic of political discussion, especially in neighboring countries. So far, however, all decisions have not been made either at the level of the European Union (EU) or by all individual states.
According to Metas, Switzerland is following developments in neighboring countries and will carefully examine whether any adjustment to the time regulation makes sense and is in Switzerland’s interest. The existing time regulations apply until further notice.
When Central European Time was introduced at the end of the 19th century and when the time change was introduced in 1981, the Federal Council and Parliament decided, primarily for economic reasons, to use a time regulation that was in line with that of the neighboring countries. If there were a different regulation, Switzerland would become a time island.
