11.4 billion euros of unused technological devices sleep in French homes“. Here is what is announced in the press release published by the ecoATM company following a survey it commissioned from OnePoll. In other words, “whether it’s televisions, mobile phones, or even Gameboy and Tamagotchi“, these old products that we do not get rid of represent, in total, a huge jackpot.

Precisely, this represents an average value of 392.50 euros per household, we read in the press release sent to the media and initially relayed byClubic. To stay on average, the French have an average of 2.3 mobile phones that have not been used for more than a year“. They are also 27% – therefore more than a quarter of those surveyed – to store more than three.

At the turn of this survey, we also learn that an adult in France has an average of 5.2 smartphones during his life.

Why do we keep our old phones?

The company ecoATM explains in its press release that 40% of respondents do not get rid of their old smartphones in case the one they are currently using breaks down or is lost. Interestingly, one in five people surveyed just don’t know how to dispose of an old piece of technology.

A good part of the French men and women also indicate voluntarily keeping old devices in case they feel the urge to take them out of the closet to use them again. Some even admitnot being good at saying goodbye to these objects“. Then they were 62% to explain that their mobile phone was the most valuable technological device in their eyes.

This study is based ona sample of 1,000 people, representative of the French population aged 18 and over“. As for ecoATM, it is a firm specializing in the recovery of old smartphones which guarantees that the devices it recovers end up recycled or reused. In other words, the company’s objective here is to encourage you to adopt eco-responsible behaviors. If you’re sure you don’t use an old device anymore, you could try having it recycled.

Also remember to find out about the repairability of your devices.
