Looking ahead to 2022
Vettel believes in future Aston Martin successes
Sebastian Vettel has already become world champion four times. After his contract extension, he is now looking forward to the upcoming Formula 1 season with Aston Martin. Then the racing team wants to finally close the gap to the top.
The four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel is looking forward to the upcoming Formula 1 season with Aston Martin. “This year I had the opportunity to get to know the team and their way of working. We are all very excited to see where we will be next year,” said the 34-year-old in a post on his racing team’s website: “I think we will establish ourselves more and more. The spirit is right, I believe in the project and I think the team will be successful in the future. “
Vettel had switched from Ferrari to the English car manufacturer before the season that ran until December. Aston Martin has not been able to catch up with the top in the past few months. A second place for Hessen in Baku is the highlight so far. With only 35 World Championship points, however, Vettel is only twelfth in the overall standings and is thus far behind its own expectations. In 2022, a revised regulation will come into effect in Formula 1, which could shift the balance of power.
“It’s very difficult to know what to expect in the coming year, but I’m very excited,” said Vettel. “The goals are high and it’s a stranger to everyone, so I’m looking forward to it.” Aston Martin has the ambitious goal of competing for the world championship in the next four to five years. Vettel has just extended his contract until the end of 2022.
