And here we go for a new game of sandbox / survival, with Lord of the Rings: Return to Moriawhich seems to borrow what works for just about everyone, to transpose it into one of the emblematic places of Tolkien’s work.
The Lord of the Rings and the power of crafting
Quite short, the trailer is still sufficiently provided in gameplay trailers for us to get a little bit of what it’s going to be about. Stuck in the Mines of Moria, the Dwarves will have to explore Moria while ensuring their survival along the way, whether by building new outposts to improve their equipment, or by escaping the creatures that lurk in the corner. For the rest, we are on a fairly classic survival, with a small aspect of platforms and stone breaking that will make you sleepless all night.
Survival / sandbox is back in force
Steam’s early access category is awash with betas of a host of very ambitious survival games. We think in particular of the excellent Project Zomboid, or closer to us, the surprising V Rising and its quality PVE. From now on, to succeed in getting away with it in this category, you have to: either offer something fresh to the genre, or stick a very well-known license on the back. In rare cases, the two ingredients come together (Conan Exiles), but we hope that this new Lord of the Rings game will offer an unprecedented immersion in Tolkien’s universe via this good old craft / build / survive recipe.
