Those who fast do something good for their body. If you want to lose weight permanently, you should go one step further. The expert explains.
Lent has been going on for over two weeks. Anyone who practices doing without in order to lose weight effectively is on the right track, says doctor Dr. med. Silja Schäfer ("Losing weight despite 1000 excuses"). However, in an interview with the news agency spot on news, she also emphasizes that you have to "be convinced of the method of losing weight" in order to be able to record long-term success. You have to feel good despite giving up. "Pressing the reset button can make a lot of sense," she says.
Lose weight in the long term with interval fasting
Pressing the reset button means dropping or changing old habits. If you want to lose weight in the long term, you can do something good for your body with so-called therapeutic fasting, but in the long term the doctor recommends interval fasting in a 16: 8 rhythm. This method can be carried out without great effort over several weeks and months, so that in the end up to 10, 20 or even 30 kilograms could tumble.
A tip from the expert: "In rheumatic diseases or joint diseases, we often see therapeutic fasting as an advantage. Here, after the first few days, you usually notice how your health is going uphill."
Get there with nutrition plans
"Nutrition plans are the be-all and end-all of all plans to change the diet," says Dr. med. Shepherd. These would have a positive impact on perseverance and prevent you from "constantly questioning your own project". Anyone who likes to go to the fridge because of boredom will hear from the expert: "You shouldn't eat anything! You shouldn't nibble on healthy carrots or peppers either. Food stays food."
Instead, the doctor recommends looking for alternatives. That could be dancing to loud music, a phone call to a friend or cleaning the apartment. "The creation of a treasure chest has proven particularly useful," says Dr. med. Shepherd also. "Here you put everything you wanted to eat out of boredom throughout the day and treat yourself to a little something in the evening for dessert at the end of the meal."
