Internet users are wondering about Curious Cat, after a series of strange events surrounding the question and answer platform.

In addition to having lost its domain name, the platform now seems to be managed by different people, without any official announcement having been made.

A “lost” main domain name

Curious Cat is a popular social media platform, allowing Internet users to answer questions submitted to them anonymously or not. If the platform is not without controversies, in particular on the anonymity of users which has led to cases where women have been the victims of harassment, it is a more technical problem which affects it now.

As reported by BleepingComputer, since the end of December, the platform’s main domain name no longer belongs to it and has been taken over by another entity. After more than a year of silence, the official Curious Cat Twitter account has emerged from its torpor to communicate on the subject. ” curiouscat.qa has been lost due to an error we made, it is no longer our service », Can we read there. The company has also provided new URLs to be able to continue using the service and announced updates to their app on Android and iOS.

Despite the explanations, Internet users remain skeptical

However, internet users began to doubt the legitimacy of these messages, pointing out that the account’s way of expressing itself was different from that used in the past. Some of them refuse to click on the links provided and advise others to do the same. Following a question from a user about the origin of the company, whose developers were originally Spanish, the Twitter account replied: ” Curious Cat is developed by a Spanish team but managed by a Korean team now. We worked together for years but they are all gone for the moment “.

An answer that does not reassure all the users, who encounter all the more integration problems on Twitter, probably due to the loss of the main domain of Curious Cat. The announced updates should fix the problem, however. Note that one of the alternate domains communicated by the Twitter account, curiouscat.me, had been confirmed to be legitimate by the Twitter account in 2020 but appeared to serve primarily as a test site.

The current problem could therefore come from a lack of communication following a change of management and a simple forgetting to renew a domain, a situation that Google itself has already suffered
. However, some users preferred to disconnect the service from their Twitter account for security reasons and switch to another platform, considering Curious Cat to be compromised. For the moment, the company has not clarified its current situation.
