Lost on the descent – father and daughter were stuck in the heavy rain on the mountain

Their lack of local knowledge cost a father and his daughter dearly when descending the Donnerkogel in Gosau. The two Czechs got lost and then got stuck on the mountain in heavy rain. Luckily they were able to give their coordinates and were rescued by the alpine police and mountain rescue.

Two Czech citizens, a 48-year-old man and his 17-year-old daughter, went on a mountain hike up the Donnerkogel in Gosau on Saturday. They took the train to the Zwieselam at around 12 p.m. and climbed the “Intersport via ferrata” to the summit, which they only reached at around 5 p.m. The cable car had already stopped operating After the descent, the cable car had already stopped operating and so the decision was made two walk down into the valley to the Vorderer Gosausee. They chose the route via the “Feichteck”, where they ended up on an unmarked and very little-used path along the former ski run in the direction of Gosausee. Due to the weak climbing tracks and the lack of local knowledge, the two Czechs got stuck in the steep, rocky terrain and could neither go forward nor back.Exhausted and soakedWhen a heavy rain front finally arrived and darkness gradually fell, they made an emergency call around 8:40 p.m. The Gmunden Alpine police together with the Gosau mountain rescue team started the ascent using the coordinates provided and were able to find the two unharmed at an altitude of around 1100 meters, but exhausted and soaked in the steep terrain and consequently bring them safely down into the valley.
