Lothar Matthäus: This is how he feels as a new grandfather

Despite Corona and living in Hungary, Lothar Matthäus can often see his new grandson in Munich. But how does he feel as a grandpa?

Record national player Lothar Matthäus (59) is a new grandpa. At the beginning of September his daughter Alisa (34) gave birth to her son Samo in Munich. In an interview, the former DFB captain talks about how he can still keep in touch during the difficult Corona period: "Because of my work as a Sky expert, I am in Munich very often because my children and my grandchildren can live there I combine the private with the professional – we see each other regularly. "

"I think at my age you can be a grandpa," says Matthäus, explaining his new role. It feels great to have a grandson. In addition, his own son is still very young: "That works great!" Matthäus, who has meanwhile moved the center of his life to Hungary, became a father again in 2014 with his fifth wife Anastasia Klimko (32). The world champion from 1990 is the father of two other sons from his marriage (1994-1999) to Lolita Morena, as well as of the two daughters Alisa and Viola, who come from his first marriage (1981-1992) to Sylvia.

His first car was a VW Golf

According to Matthäus, the fact that things have become much quieter for himself in recent years is primarily due to his place of residence outside Germany. However, it was not a conscious decision not to appear so often in the gossip columns. Still, he seems to enjoy this fact: "You could say my life has become calmer, which I personally find pleasant." Incidentally, he rules out a return to the coaching bench: "I absolutely cannot imagine that." He is very satisfied with his tasks as an expert and ambassador for FC Bayern and for the DFB-Elf.

Lothar Matthäus also recently gained another task. The DFB honorary captain has recently started working with the Pfando car pawn shop. Of course, he can still remember his very first set of wheels. "You never forget your first car. With my driver's license I got a green VW Golf with 50 hp", reveals Matthäus.
