Whether with the sweetheart or best friends: Love films just go deep and often keep us busy long after the end credits. A favorite genre? We dont have. Comedy, dance film, drama … has everything! And if we look at a beautiful romance, then we are not ashamed to shed a tear or two.
Why do we love films so close?
Because it is love that concerns us in life. Movies, songs, books … Often it's all about the most beautiful feeling in the world. Everyone has felt love before and knows the pain it can bring. In love films we share joy and heartache with the protagonists, can empathize with their situation. Sometimes we see love stories on the big screen that we would like to experience ourselves. We dream of a different, more romantic world.
Do Hollywood films distort reality?
Yes, we admit it. The romance in love films is usually not very close to everyday life. Researchers at the Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh have found that people who watch romances frequently have an unrealistic idea of love relationships. That can get in their way in real life. We think: everything is half as wild! We should be allowed to enjoy love films, but we should keep in mind that it is Hollywood.
The stars of the love films
Many great actors became known through love films – or became famous through them: Patrick Swayze ("Ghost", "Dirty Dancing"), Leonardo DiCaprio ("Titanic"), Hugh Grant ("Notting Hill", "Actually Love"), Keira Knightley ("Pride and Prejudice") and Julia Roberts ("Pretty Woman", "Notting Hill") are just a few examples. The jackpot for the perfect girls' evening: a handsome leading actor. Ryan Gosling, Sam Claflin, Gérard Butler, Bradley Cooper … There are a lot of twinks we would like to practice kissing with. And to be honest: you're never too old to adore a Hollywood actor!
Love films that men also like
If you want to convince your loved one of a love film, then it doesn't have to be an FSK 18 or an erotic film! No, it should only stand out from the crowd. While we women are somewhat more tolerant, many men (mind you, but not all!) Are allergic to kitsch and cliché. And the film must not be too predictable. Music films are usually not so well received by men. But it is worthwhile to insert a fantasy film with a love story or a pearl from the independent corner.

Whether comedy or drama – you have probably already noticed one thing: cinema has become really expensive. For a ticket with popcorn and a drink, you can easily go for 20 euros. Indeed there is nowhere more goosebumps feeling than on the big screen. Love films in the cinema? Excellent! But if you prefer to snuggle up at home, you can watch films like Maxdome, Amazon Prime or iTunes (for a fee). And if you want to fall back on the good old method: There are still video stores that rent DVDs!
