22 singles set out to find true love in 2023, six of them ended up in the final: Jenny and Luca were named the winning couple of the eighth “Love Island” season on Monday evening. With 53 percent of the audience voting, they beat Evi and Leandro (third place) and Laura and Leon (second place) and took home 50,000 euros together. How was the final show with the moderation duo Sylvie Meis (45) and Oli.P (45) received by the viewers?

The final, which was shown on RTLzwei from 8:15 p.m., reached 330,000 viewers (1.4 percent). The show achieved a 3.9 percent market share among the young target group of 14 to 49 year olds. For comparison: The primetime victory among 14 to 49 year olds was “The Lions’ Den” with 560,000 viewers (12 percent market share).

The “Love Island” finale reached a smaller audience than the last episode last year, which was shown late in the evening. The 2019 “Love Island” final was also shown in prime time and reached an average of more than a million people “DWDL” reports.

RTLzwei still draws a positive conclusion. The market share of the season was 9.7 percent among 14 to 29 year olds and 5.1 percent among 14 to 49 year olds. In comparison, last year’s season achieved slightly better ratings of 5.6 percent (14-49 years) and 10.4 percent (14-29 years) across all episodes. Since its launch on September 11th, the format has also had 71 million video views across all digital channels. “This is an increase of 17 percent compared to last year’s season,” said the broadcaster.

Winning couple makes plans

And what happens next for the winning couple of the eighth “Love Island” season? In the winner’s interview with RTLzwei, Luca reveals: “Of course, the first thing we have to do is exchange our cell phone numbers. We are a couple, but we don’t have our numbers yet.” Jenny further explains that the two of them would each go home for a few days, “but then we’ll see each other again on Thursday or Friday. I can’t even imagine what it will be like without him. But We’re already planning our first vacation together!”
