He is a doctor. He’s in the war. And he finally wants to go home. With this story, a fraudster managed to gain the trust of a 58-year-old living in Tyrol. However, her affection cost the woman dearly.
The 58-year-old has been in contact with the alleged doctor via a messenger platform since December. The stories of war and homesickness touched the woman’s heart. So she allowed herself to be softened into transferring around 50,000 euros to the stranger in several installments. Although she was supposed to transfer the amounts to different accounts, the 58-year-old had no suspicions. The supposed doctor had told the woman that he needed the money for the expensive trip home. But when the money was transferred, the stranger was suddenly no longer available. The investigators call this scam by the scammers “love scamming”. In most cases, victims never see their money again.
