As part of a diet, many people switch to low-carb foods that are high in protein and fat. Here you can find out which low-carbohydrate foods to bet on.
In this list you will find low-carb foods that contain little or no carbohydrates and that you can use for low-carb recipes. However, a low-carb diet does not mean that you should completely avoid carbohydrates – the keyword is balance. Then nothing stands in the way of losing weight with low-carb foods.
Our low-carb foods are divided into the following categories:
Low carb foods: vegetables
Vegetables are usually low in carbohydrates, exceptions are, for example, starchy vegetables such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, parsnips or corn. Beans and legumes also contain quite a lot of carbohydrates. However, the following are unproblematic:
- aubergine
- broccoli
- cauliflower
- Kale
- Cucumbers
- paprika
- Mushrooms
- Brussels sprouts
- salad
- asparagus
- spinach
- tomatoes
- zucchini
Low carb foods: fruits
Fruit is definitely healthy and should be part of a balanced diet. However, some types of fruit contain a lot of carbohydrates and are rather unsuitable for low carb diet recipes. The following fruit, on the other hand, contains few carbs:
- Apricots
- avocado
- Strawberries
- Grapefruit
- blueberries
- Raspberries
- Cherries
- kiwi
- Olives
- Oranges
- Lemons
Low carb foods: nuts & seeds
Nuts are low in carbohydrates and high in healthy fats and fiber, making them very suitable for a low-carb diet. Various seeds are also low in carbohydrates:
- Chia seeds
- peanuts
- Hazelnuts
- linseed
- Almonds
- Sunflower seeds
- Walnuts
Low carb foods: meat
Meat contains almost no carbohydrates, so you can plan the following types of meat for your low-carb diet:
- Beef
- chicken
- pig
- lamb
- turkey
- Wild
Low carb foods: seafood
Similar to meat, most types of fish are also low-carb foods and are also rich in protein and omega-3 fatty acids.
- Trout
- shrimp
- herring
- salmon
- Sardines
- Shrimp
- tuna
Low carb foods: dairy products
Due to their high protein content and low amount of carbohydrates, most dairy products are suitable for a low-carb diet. Most cheeses are also low in carbohydrates.
- butter
- Cheese (e.g. Appenzeller, Bergkäse, Cheddar, Edam, Emmentaler, Gouda, Maasdam, Parmesan, goat cheese)
- Natural yoghurt
- Quark
- cream
Other low-carb foods
Included in addition to the products already mentioned Eggs, tofu and oil (e.g. olive oil) no or few carbohydrates. Also drinks like Water, tea and coffee are not a problem – you should avoid fruit juices and alcohol as part of a low-carb diet.
