Lucas, 25, died after 8 hours in the emergency room: his mother reveals how she was refused to see her dying son: Femme Actuelle Le MAG

On the night of September 30 to October 1, 2023, a 25-year-old young man died of septic shock. Lucas Godefroy spent several hours alone dying in the corridors of the Hyères emergency room, on a stretcher. Faced with the tragedy, the family decided to file a complaint for involuntary manslaughter on December 12, 2023. Wednesday February 7, 2024, his mother Corine Godefroy came to testify on the set of Daily (TMC). Faced with Yann Barthès, she denounced the dysfunctions within the establishment. She returned to the exchanges with her son, “by text”. “He can’t take it anymore, he’s suffering. He complains that he has trouble breathing, no one does anything”, lamented the mother. When one of the show’s columnists asked her if she had tried to see her son, Corine Godefroy indicated “that a window separated her from an agent.” “We can’t see him, and we haven’t been able to speak to a doctor”, she continued. It must be said that Lucas waited almost 8 hours in the emergency corridors, without being taken care of, in unbearable pain.

A tragic lack of care

The situation presented by Corine Godefroy is worrying. By text message, the 25-year-old young man tried to tell him about his ordeal. “He told me ‘it’s horrible'”, she remembered, recalling that he “could no longer breathe and was writhing in pain.” After 4 hours of waiting, a first doctor arrives, but “don’t examine it, it hovers over it”, thus denounced the mother. After 9 hours, after feeling unwell, the caregivers realized that Lucas was suffering from septic shock. It’s too late. “Between 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., he became seriously unwell. It was the beginning of the end for Lucas”, she lamented. While an investigation was opened, the management of the Hyères Hospital Center indicated, in a press release on December 18, 2023, its intention to “cooperate fully with the investigation carried out by the competent authority”. In addition, the Minister of Health, Catherine Vautrin, confirmed that an administrative investigation had also been entrusted to the General Inspectorate of Social Affairs (IGAS).
