Lucid Air: Even More Power to Shade the Tesla Model S Poster

Lucid Motors is clearly Tesla’s challenger: the Californian brand is in the process of marketing its Lucid Air, the equivalent of the Tesla Model S. Here is the variant… the most powerful available.

Lucid Motors, you know? Californian electric car manufacturer Lucid Motors (formerly Atieva) is positioning itself as Tesla’s main competitor. Same philosophy, same region of the world, same objective… the Lucid Air is designed to make us forget the Tesla Model S Plaid.

The high-end version of the Lucid Air

Lucid Motors introduced a new version of the Air. With 783 kW, the Grand Touring Performance is the most powerful version of this 100% electric luxury sedan. It will be delivered from July 2022 with prices starting at $179,000. There are therefore five variants of the sedan, including the base model which is simply called Airthe Lucid Air Tower (456 kW), the Grand Touring (588kW), Grand Touring Performance (783kW) and “Dream Edition” with a power of 794 kW.

As a reminder, the first deliveries of the Lucid Air began in October 2021, it was the “Grand Touring” model – the version with the longest range, Lucid evokes a range of up to 837 kilometers according to the American EPA cycle. This new Grand Touring Performance model offers a reduced range of 718 kilometers (EPA), but the power is 783 kW, which allows it to approach the Dream Edition… which is a limited special edition now sold out.

It is nevertheless important, especially in this price segment, to point out that Lucid has since revised the power figures somewhat upwards – the “Grand Touring” is now advertised at 610 kW, the “Dream Edition” goes up to at 828kW. With 783 kW, the Grand Touring Performance offers figures below the Dream Edition, but mind-blowing figures… With 2.6 seconds to 0 to 100 km/h, this new model is only 0.1 seconds slower than the “Dream Edition”. For comparison, since this is somewhat the purpose of the exercise, the Tesla Model S Plaid has a power of 1020 hp (about 760 kW) which allows you to do a 0 to 100 km / h in 2.1 seconds . Tesla had an even more muscular version in the pipeline, the Plaid+, but it was cancelled.

Lucid Motors arrives in France

As a reminder, the arrival of the Lucid Air on our side of the Atlantic is confirmed for 2022… unless a delay is in the program. Reservations for the first model of Lucid Motos are already open on the manufacturer’s website. In France, you must agree to a refundable deposit of 300 euros to block an entry-level model. This amount increases to 900 euros for the Touring and Grand Touring versions. As for the real prices of the vehicles, they are still not known. But again, the suspense should not be very long.
