Lucid Gravity: The New Electric SUV Challenging Tesla Model X

Lucid Motors, established in 2007, is gaining traction in the electric SUV market with the launch of the Lucid Gravity, a competitor to Tesla’s Model X. Priced from $94,900, it promises over 800 horsepower and a range of 440 miles. With pre-orders starting November 9 and a more affordable Touring trim to follow, the Gravity features advanced technology, including a 34-inch digital display and rapid charging capabilities. Its European availability remains highly anticipated.

Lucid Motors: A Rising Contender in the Electric SUV Market

Founded in 2007, Lucid Motors is gradually making its mark in the automotive world, despite being relatively unknown in regions like France. While the brand isn’t yet available for purchase in France, its flagship model, the Lucid Air sedan, is already making waves in countries such as Germany.

The Lucid Gravity: A New Electric SUV

The Lucid Gravity, the company’s latest electric SUV, was officially revealed late last year and is set to compete directly with established players like Tesla’s Model X. Following a turbulent period that nearly led to bankruptcy, Lucid Motors appears to be on the upswing and is gearing up for the Gravity’s launch. The Grand Touring trim of the Gravity will be available at a starting price of $94,900 (approximately €87,134), positioning it as a premium offering in the electric vehicle market.

While details on the Gravity’s technical specifications are still under wraps, it is reported to deliver over 800 horsepower and an impressive range of 440 miles (around 708 kilometers) based on the rigorous American EPA cycle. For context, the Lucid Air sedan offers a similar performance, boasting 831 horsepower and a remarkable WLTP range of 882 kilometers, thanks in part to its aerodynamic design with a drag coefficient (Cx) of just 0.197. The Gravity shares a Cx of 0.24, comparable to that of the Model X, suggesting efficient performance as well.

To charge the Gravity, it will feature a NACS (North American Charging Standard) port, though specific charging details have yet to be disclosed.

More Affordable Options on the Horizon

For those eager to get behind the wheel, pre-orders for the Lucid Gravity will open in the United States on November 9, with production expected to commence soon after. Additionally, a more budget-friendly Touring trim is set to launch by the end of next year, starting at $79,900 (around €73,345). Although technical specifications for this variant have not been revealed, it is likely to resemble the Lucid Air Touring, which includes a powerful 628 horsepower engine and a range of 794 kilometers in the WLTP cycle.

The Gravity’s dimensions are quite substantial, measuring five meters in length, two meters in width, and 1.65 meters in height. Inside, drivers will enjoy a state-of-the-art 34-inch 6K digital display featuring OLED technology, blending touchscreen functionality with an instrument cluster. The vehicle will also support over-the-air updates and integrate seamlessly with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Thanks to its advanced 800-volt architecture, capable of reaching up to 900 volts, the Gravity can regain 321 kilometers of range in just 15 minutes when connected to a 350 kW DC rapid charging station. As excitement builds, many are left wondering when this innovative electric SUV will make its debut in the European market.
