Boris Johnson earns millions with four speeches

Since stepping down as British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson has made a fortune from speaking out. For four speeches, the deputy collects millions. The proud hourly wage: 30,000 pounds.

Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson made over £1m from four speeches between October and November. This is according to the latest data from the Register of Financial Matters of Members of Parliament. Johnson, as a current MP, is required to report income outside of his parliamentary work and the hours spent on it.

The 58-year-old, known for his flowery rhetoric, has an hourly wage of around £30,000. In the past few months, Johnson has spoken to bankers and insurance companies in the United States and at a conference organized by the US television channel CNN. He also performed in India and Portugal. He received £277,724 just for a speech in New York for the finance company Centerview Partners. The US company that had booked Johnson for nine hours covered the trip to the USA and the costs for two companions.

Under pressure from his own parliamentary group, Johnson resigned in July after a series of scandals after around three years in office. However, he remains a British Conservative MP in the London House of Commons. After the resignation of his successor Liz Truss after just a few weeks in office, Johnson briefly attempted a spectacular political comeback in October. However, Conservative MPs backed former finance minister and current Prime Minister Rishi Sunak instead.
