The German writer Ludwig Fels is dead. His publisher announced that. Fels had lived in Vienna for many years.

The author Ludwig Fels, who was born in Treuchtlingen in 1946, is dead. The German writer died on January 11, 2021 after a serious illness at the age of 74 in Vienna, according to his publishing house Jung und Jung. The Austrian capital had been the adopted home of Fels since the 1980s.

Numerous prizes for his work

From 1973 Fels worked as a writer. He wrote poetry, plays, novels and radio plays. His works include "An absurdity of love", "Heaven was a great present" and the novel "Moon Quake", published in 2020, with which he landed on the long list of the Austrian Book Prize. "We are very sad and our thoughts are with his wife," says the publisher.

Fels has received numerous other awards over the past decades, including the Hans Fallada Prize in 1983, the Wolfgang Koeppen Prize in 2004, the Wilhelm and Christine Hirschmann Foundation's Literature Prize in 2009 and the Wolfram von Eschenbach Prize in 2011.
