BARCELONA (Agefi-Dow Jones)–Lufthansa and shipping giant MSC are seeking to acquire 20% and 60% stakes respectively in Italian airline ITA Airways, born out of the ashes of Alitalia, as part of their joint bid, Reuters reported on Tuesday, citing an unnamed source.
In this scheme, the Italian State would initially retain a 20% stake in the capital of the air transport group, according to this source quoted by the press agency.
According to Reuters, Air France-KLM, Delta Air Lines and the investment fund Certares have presented a competing offer for the Italian airline.
A decision is expected to be made in the coming weeks on which of the two groups of potential buyers will be invited to enter into exclusive negotiations, as Rome wants to complete the sale by the end of June, according to Reuters.
