After seven seasons, “Riverdale” – the series on which Luke Perry worked before his death – ends. The co-stars haven’t forgotten about him.

The Netflix series “Riverdale” ends on August 24th with the final episode of the seventh season. To finish, the stars have to look to their peers Luke Perry (1966-2019), who died unexpectedly while filming the third season.

“Luke was an oracle”

In an interview with “Vulture” Cole Sprouse, 31, Camila Mendes, 29, and Madelaine Petsch, 28, have spoken about the lasting positive impact Perry has had on them. The former “Beverly Hills, 90210” star died of a stroke in March 2019 at the age of 52. “Luke was an oracle to me and a lot of people on the show,” said Petsch, who played Cheryl Blossom on the show. “Mostly because he’s been with us through the first two years of chaos and confusion and on the road to success. I think he’s a big reason the show is where it is today.”

“Riverdale” premiered in 2017. After seven seasons it’s over. Cole Sprouse, who played Jughead Jones, agreed that Luke Perry seemed able to foresee everything the actors “would go through” during their time on the series. For many of the cast, the quirky teen drama was their first major role. He often thinks about how Perry would answer certain “questions if he were still with us,” Sprouse said. Camila Mendes, who played Veronica Lodge, said: “We were lucky enough to work with him.”

Small glasses and special way of speaking

The stars also recalled Perry’s warm demeanor and fashion-forward style. Petsch spoke about always wearing “small glasses”. Sprouse opined that Perry had a “beautiful and passionate” way of speaking “that got him up close to his face”.

The series stars have thought of the deceased several times. The premiere of the fourth season of “Riverdale” served as a tribute to Perry and his character Fred Andrews, who died a tragic serial death – in a hit-and-run car accident. “We’ve suffered a huge, huge loss and we’re going to feel that as long as we’re lucky enough to keep the show going,” showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said at the time. In 2020, KJ Apa, 26, called his late co-star “one of the best people I’ve ever known in my life.” He really misses talking to him. Lili Reinhart (26) also tweeted in 2020: “I dreamed last night that I saw Luke… and I hugged him so tight and cried on his shoulder, telling him how much we all miss him.” She thinks his ghost visited her in her sleep and let her know “that he is smiling brightly on the other side”.
