Lula parade, maybe that’s a detail for you…

warm up lap

Despite the protests of outgoing President Jair Bolsonaro, the demonstrations of his activists crying out for a rigged election and the sermons of fundamentalist priests calling on God to save Brazil from the communist peril, it happened. 1er January, in Brasilia, Lula, 77 years old and 580 days in prison, was sworn in as President of Brazil. For the occasion, he even offered himself a little ride in a convertible with his wife, Rosangela da Silva, the vice-president, Geraldo Alckmin, and the latter’s wife, Maria Lúcia Ribeiro Alckmin.

familiar gesture

In this image, Lula and his vice-president are distinguished by a funny hand sign. What is it about ? V for Victory ? From an imaginary gun ? From the gesture of the rapper Jul, here poorly executed ? Or the L, symbol of losers, very popular in the 1990s, under the impact of Ace Ventura, with Jim Carey ? Nothing of that. The two men simply take over the sign ” L “for Lula, who over the course of the campaign has become one of the candidate’s marketing elements.

Victorious regrowth

Another symbol of victory is displayed here for all to see: Lula’s beard, which reminds us that he has succeeded in overcoming a sad ordeal. In 2011, cancer of the larynx, treated with chemotherapy, forced the former trade unionist to shave his hair and beard. At the time, it was his second wife, Marisa Letícia, who carried out the mower operation, widely photographed and relayed by the media. Six years later, while Lula was in remission, Marisa Letícia died of a stroke.

bay laurel

Alongside Lula, there is now Rosangela da Silva, his third wife, a sociologist by training. On the collar of his ecru jacket is embroidered a series of laurel leaves, an ancestral sign of prestige and symbol of victory. In antiquity, it was associated with the god Apollo, patron of music and the arts, and it crowned victorious generals. Suffice to say that this coquetry is certainly not a coincidence.

wings of desire

Finally, how not to notice the logo of the presidential vehicle? Fans will recognize Rolls-Royce’s “Spirit of Ecstasy”, representing a woman leaning forward, dressed in a dress reminiscent of wings, created in 1911 by the English sculptor Charles Sykes and present on all the manufacturer’s models. Experts will add that the vehicle in question is a convertible Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith. The crazy people (there are some) will specify
that this model is also that of the presidential vehicle in Ireland and Denmark.
