They exist and they are breathtaking: the most beautiful suites in the world. Our travel expert Carsten K. Rath has visited the most extraordinary suites for you.

They are generously equipped and take you into another world: The Super Suites of this world are spectacular accommodations, the walls of which could tell many stories of royal and prominent guests. But what exactly sets suites apart from other hotel rooms? In my time as a travel journalist I have experienced the most beautiful destinations in the world.

Exciting, but no time right now?

The Super Suites combine the best of the luxurious houses. Some of them are already legendary because of their size, many also because of their prominent visitors. Others through their artistic design. But they all have one thing in common: when entering each suite, they amaze me and make me dream. For you, I went in search of the most beautiful suites in the world.

Hanseatic flair in the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Hamburg

There are many wonderful hotels in Germany. But the best hotel in Germany is and remains the Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten. When I travel to Hamburg, I stay at least one night in the grand hotel on the Binnenalster. As soon as I enter the lobby, I already feel it – the love for tradition.

For 125 years, guests have found Hanseatic luxury in these rooms, and the house is constantly reinventing itself. The lobby has always been welcoming and spacious. But hotel director Ingo C. Peter used the lockdown period for renovation work. The entrance area now shines even more elegantly and brightly than before. Just in time for the 125th anniversary, Ingo also reopened the Presidential Suite and gave me and other journalists a first look.

To this day, the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten is very popular with its guests. I am sure that the VIPs staying here in the near future will feel very comfortable. 200 square meters of pure luxury. Everywhere I look I notice fine materials from the JAP Anstoetz brand.

A perfect place to find the peace for new creations and also for decisions. Who knows, maybe heads of state will set historically significant milestones in this suite in the future?

Art & Milanese Culture at Mandarin Oriental Milan

The hotels of the Mandarin Oriental hotel group inspire me worldwide with their exclusive locations and great facilities and above all with their personal service. If I want to see a European city, Mandarin is my first choice. One might think that the hotels in a hotel group resemble each other like an off-the-shelf product. The opposite is the case.

The regional advantages are emphasized in every single house. One of my favorite hotels in the group is in the city center of Milan, the city of fashion and art. A bit like Paris only with a Mediterranean temperament.

Usually home to Italian nobility, the Fornasetti Suite pays homage to the city’s art. When I lie down on the king-size bed in the evening, the sky of Milan hovers over me. At least the handmade wallpaper gives me the feeling. The suite is not particularly large. But size doesn’t always matter. I’m amazed at how artful you can design a suite without making it look too cluttered. Each individual piece is hand-picked and comes from the designer Fornasetti’s collection.

High above Lake Zurich in the Dolder Grand

The best hotel in Switzerland, the Dolder Grand, is also known for its love of art. Like a fairytale white castle, it sits enthroned high on the Züriberg with a view of Lake Zurich and is excellently managed by Markus Granelli. The “Dolder Grand Hotel & Curhaus” opened in 1899 and has since advanced to become an extravagant city resort.

The “normal” rooms alone are worth a trip. But today it’s all about the top suites. One of the 5 top suites at the Dolder Grand is the Masina Suite. It is a tribute to the Italian actress Giulietta Masina. My favourite: the open fireplace.

In addition to the open indoor fire, another secret man’s dream in this suite inspires me: a private pool table. After a sweaty game, you can relax in the suite’s own sauna. I cool off on the private roof terrace. With a spectacular view of the sunset over Lake Zurich.

  • A 6-course menu in the fine dining restaurant is available from 265 euros.

Sustainable island dream on Soneva Fushi

I’ve visited the most remote places in the world – and discovered another great suite in the middle of the ocean in the Maldives. The island of Soneva Fushi scores with its postcard-perfect ambience with the probably most beautiful sunsets, the deep blue ocean and a colorful underwater world.

In addition, this Maldives island is also sustainable. Door handles, lampshades or even individual cupboard doors – they are all recycled and revived into new artistic individual pieces. More than 15 employees take care of the waste separation on the island, international artists keep creating real works of art from packaging leftovers. Slow travel is the motto at Soneva Fushi. Business dress and shoes simply stay outside.

  • Reserve the Soneva Villa Suite with pool from 1900 euros per night.
