Lynx released into the wild – The new “Casanova” on four paws is now getting started

One has been waiting in vain for years for lynx offspring in the Kalkalpen National Park. All hope is now placed in the one and a half year old “Norik”, who was released into the forest wilderness shortly after midnight on Saturday night.

Before that he lived in a release enclosure in Maßweiler (Germany), where he was able to prepare himself for a life in the wild. “We are very happy that the release of ‘Norik’ was possible before Christmas. This enabled us to create optimal conditions for offspring for the mating season in February and March,” says director Volkhard Maier. “Norik” was chosen as the new Limestone Alpine “Casanova” on four paws because, as the original Carpathian lynx, he can provide the necessary fresh blood . “Everything worked during transport. He immediately disappeared into the darkness and familiarized himself with his new surroundings,” says Maier.
