In 2020, nearly 740,000 children were born all over France. An impressive figure, but which in recent years has been steadily decreasing. Indeed, compared to the year 2019, the birth rate has fallen by 1.8% and the causes are multiple: the coronavirus, the purchasing power of the French, changes in mentality but also their geographical location. A nonetheless innocuous character but which for many French people represents an important lever in their choice of maternity and for good reason, in France, all the cities are not necessarily the most suitable for giving birth to a baby and raising it.
To give you an idea, Le Figaro shared a ranking of the top 100 cities for young parents. For this, the magazine took into account six major factors, essential when choosing to welcome a small baby in his life: the places in crèche available, the presence of pediatricians, childcare stores, pharmacies, the price of one hour of babysitting and the diversity of green spaces.
And the big winner is …
It is the city of Lyon which takes the first position by bringing together the most assets. In fact, the metropolis, which does not necessarily have the best childcare capacity (61.43%), but it has beautiful green spaces (over 6.5% of the territory) and satisfactory access to shops. childcare or pediatric care.
Marseille in 48th place only
The city of Grenoble is in second position, just ahead of several cities of Hauts-de-Seine, such as Boulogne-Billancourt, Courbevoie, Issy-les-Moulineaux or Levallois-Perret.
In 8th place in the ranking is Paris, although the average price of one hour of babysitting is high (9.67 euros), the French capital has a high density of pediatricians for 10 km2 as well as many parks in disposal (21.8%).
To finish the top 10, we find the cities of Lille and Bordeaux.
Although it is the second largest city in France, Marseille only appears in 48th place in this ranking, just ahead of Toulouse. Although very pleasant, these two metropolises suffer from difficulties linked to reception in a crèche, a serious constraint for young parents. But this is unfortunately not the only one, in a radius of 10 km2, there are very few childcare stores in Marseille as in Toulouse.
