M. Night Shyamalan will be President of the International Jury at the Berlinale 2022.

The American director and screenwriter M. Night Shyamalan (51) will take over the management of the international jury at the Berlinale next year. The festival management announced this on October 19th.

Carlo Chatrian (49), the Artistic Director of the Berlinale, explains in a message: “I feel happy and honored that M. Night Shyamalan has accepted our invitation as jury president. […] Shyamalan is a unique figure in the US film business, a filmmaker who has remained true to his vision. “

“The invitation to be part of the Berlinale means a lot to me,” says Shyamalan. “It’s a special honor for a filmmaker.” The 51-year-old is a renowned figure in the film industry. He became internationally known in 1999 with the thriller “The Sixth Sense”.

Back to normal

The 72nd Berlinale is planned for February 10-20, 2022. The festival should then take place again as an overall event. In 2021, this was not possible due to the corona pandemic. In the spring, the specialist audience had already seen the films presented, the audience section then only took place in the summer. Among other things, an open-air cinema was built on Museum Island, which this year was the heart of the summer edition.
