Euro 2024 finally begins! In France, TF1 and M6 are the free-to-air broadcasters of the event, while beIN Sports is a paid alternative broadcasting all of the competition’s matches. For the occasion, M6 is setting up a special system with the launch of a new channel which will only be available for one month, i.e. for the duration of the tournament.

This channel has two advantages: it will broadcast the matches in HDR for better contrasts and more vivid colorimetry, and in 50 frames per second instead of the usual 25 frames per second for greater fluidity. On the other hand, you will have to settle for a 1080p definition. As specified by Ultra-K, Euro 2024 will not be captured in 4K quality anyway. To choose, it is therefore better to watch the matches on this M6 HDR channel rather than on M6 4K, the upscaling does not justify doing without HDR and 50 frames per second.

M6 HDR is available on DTT

M6 HDR is accessible from TNT or by satellite (Fransat) on channel 56. A priori, the channel is not available from the boxes of different operators or from the Canal+ ecosystem. Ultra-K claims that M6 HDR will be present on Molotov for paying subscribers, but we did not have access to it this June 14 in the afternoon. It may be deployed a little later.

Once Euro 2024 is over (M6 will broadcast the final on July 14), M6 HDR will free up the channel for France 3 UHD. The latter is not destined to last over time either, since it will end as soon as the Paris Olympic Games end.

As a reminder, here are all the Euro 2024 matches broadcast by M6:
