The manufacturer has presented a new computer for professionals that could be described as a Mac Pro picked up in the body of a Mac mini.

While the presentation of the iPhone SE 2022 and the successor to the iPad Air was hardly in doubt, Apple surprised its world by announcing a new category of computers.

A Mac mini on steroids

We were expecting a revision of the Mac Mini and even if it looks a lot like it, we will have to call this new Mac the Mac Studio. Indeed Apple offers its customers a computer without a screen, which can connect to all the devices already in your possession.

Entirely made of aluminum and only 19.7 cm in size and 9.5 cm thick, the Mac Studio demonstrates sobriety with the presence of a simple diode on the front informing the user of the power supply. of the device but also two USB-C ports and a Micro-SD port to make life easier for users who will no longer have to contort themselves to connect a peripheral. Finally, at the base of the Mac Studio, there are vents used to cool the computer.

The technical sheet it consists of an M1 Max processor but also the brand new M1 Ultra 20 core chip, announced as 60% faster than the 16-core Intel Xeon processor currently at work in the Mac Pro. These SoCs will be useful especially during heavy tasks such as 4K video editing or software development for the professionals for whom this computer is intended. For example, Apple announces that its Mac Studio can manage up to 18 8K streams.

Studio Display: an external screen perfectly adapted to the Mac Studio

Apple also has a new ready-to-use external display for future Mac Studio owners, namely the Studio Display, whose design more or less follows the lines of the latest revision of the iMac released in spring 2021, with tapered edges and a pivoting foot. An adjustable stand will also be offered to lower or raise the screen according to your work habits.

On the back there are four Thunderbolt ports to connect it to your Mac Studio or MacBook Pro.
