Apple’s two new desktop computers, the mac studio
have two different types of cooling, which slightly impact their final weight.

In some details, the two Mac Studios are identical. But when it comes to cooling, two different metals are used.

A kilo more for the Ultra, but it remains slender

The major difference between the two versions of Mac Studio is obviously in the processor used. We already knew the M1 Max, and the M1 Ultra has just been revealed with the arrival of these new computers. Particularly powerful and in line with Apple’s new guideline, which is to impress everyone, the M1 Ultra necessarily has a higher heat production than the M1 Max.

To overcome this “problem”, the Apple brand has decided to differentiate the type of cooling between the two models. The more humble of the two benefits from an aluminum heatsink, while the more powerful relies on a copper thermal module. Bigger and heavier by about a kilo (we don’t yet know if the material is the only cause of this difference in weight), this one is a much better conductor of heat than aluminum: Apple seems therefore need to move up a gear to assume its new mastodon. The good news is that there is no size difference between the case of the two Mac Studio models.
