Plagued by overheating issues due to the lack of a fan, the Macbook Air M2 finds its salvation in a paid solution.

Overheating, the scourge of summer
Relying only on a heat sink to evacuate the heat, the new Macbook Air M2 suffers from terrible overheating problems, even more obvious in this period of heat wave. It is indeed not uncommon for the device to take off at frankly dangerous temperatures, exceeding in a few seconds a hundred degrees.
Fortunately, the YouTube channel Max Tech offers a solution, certainly paid, but inexpensive (around 15 euros): install a thermal pad. But that necessarily involves opening the Macbook Air M2 in order to install this product in its innards as fiery as hell.
In the video above, Max Tech demonstrates how to safely install this cooling solution. To do this, remove the rear panel of the Macbook Air M2, only held by four screws, and separate the aluminum casing with a thin object.
Once done, just install the thermal pad on top of the heatsink. The most enterprising can even afford to remove the logic board in order to apply a piece of thermal pad on the SoC M2.
Not a miracle solution, but a solution nonetheless
Of course, this will not completely cool the heat of the Macbook Air M2, but at least it will tend not to overheat, or at least not as quickly.
Max Tech demonstrates the relative effectiveness of its solution with various tests, such as Adobe Lightroom Classic or the Cinebench R23 multi-core test. On the first, the modded Macbook Air M2 strangely takes advantage of it to be faster than the Macbook Pro M2.
On the second, this cooling system D reveals its limits: the Macbook Air M2 always manages to exceed one hundred degrees, but after about one minute and thirty seconds, instead of only thirty seconds without the thermal pad installed .
Another benefit of this solution: the graphics card of the Macbook Air M2 is able to work longer on a last test carried out via 3DMark Wild Life Gaming. Without the thermal pad, it was starting to show serious signs of slowing down after four minutes. With Max Tech’s solution, these signs of slowing appear after seven minutes.
