macOS Big Sur and Catalina: two security flaws soon to be corrected by an update

macOS Big Sur and macOS Catalina users are still waiting for the security update that is supposed to patch two security flaws. The latter is currently in beta and should soon reach our Macs.

It is not uncommon for security vulnerabilities to be discovered within macOS, the operating system for Apple computers. However, the Cupertino company is always quick to make patches available as quickly as possible.

This was the case last month, with the appearance of two critical security flaws (CVE-2022-22675 and CVE-2022-22674): one concerned AppleAVD, a video decoding system component, the other the drivers of Intel GPUs. The first only affected machines running macOS Monterey and Big Sur, while the first also affected users of macOS Catalina, released in 2019.

The update will be coming soon

Apple has therefore revised its copy, and since March 31, macOS Monterey users have been able to install version 12.3.1. The latter corrected the two security flaws in question. Unfortunately, Macs running macOS Big Sur and macOS Catalina weren’t lucky enough to receive an update. Since then, the wait is starting to get long for users, who may rightly fear that these flaws will be exploited.

Fortunately, this should change soon, with the planned arrival of the version 11.6.6 (for Big Sur). It would indeed seem that this version containing the security patch is currently in beta version. We can therefore expect an imminent deployment on the Macs concerned. Apple is therefore still asking for a little patience from users who have not switched to macOS Monterey…
