(Boursier.com) — Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, indicated this Friday, following the Versailles summit, that the Commission will present a proposal by mid-May aimed at freeing the EU from its dependence on Russian oil, gas and coal by 2027. Von der Leyen also asserts that the European Union needs a coordinated approach to increase its military spending. The Commission will also present a fourth set of sanctions against Russia, following the invasion of Ukraine.

Von der Leyen, like French President Emmanuel Macron, insist that Ukraine “is part of the European family”. Macron adds that all options are on the table regarding this Russian-Ukrainian conflict, and that “we are ready for other sanctions”. The message addressed to the Ukrainians, on the other hand, is that “the path to Europe is open to them”. “We are entering a zone of very high tension, the ECB will have to continue the work,” insisted the French president, who also fears the impact of the war in Ukraine on the food market.

Emmanuel Macron specifies that the G7 will announce in the coming hours a new series of sanctions against Russia, and that the European Central Bank will have to continue the work because of the tensions arising from the invasion in Ukraine…
