Emmanuel Macron denounced Wednesday “the cynicism” and “the disorder” of the oppositions, accusing the left of having put themselves “hand in hand with the National Rally”, and said he wanted “an alliance” with LR and the centrist group Liot for the adoption of texts at the Assembly. With the motion of censure of the Nupes also voted on Monday by the RN, but not adopted by the Assembly, “they do not have a majority, but above all they have proven that they are ready, socialists, communists, ecologists, LFI , to go hand in hand with the National Rally”, accused the head of state on France 2.

“They are not on the merit side”

“I heard the triumphalist declarations of Jean-Luc Mélenchon: with fifty votes, we were there. But who is this ‘we’? The alliance, therefore, of deputies … I am thinking of their voters this evening, socialists, ecologists, communists, LFI, with those of the RN”, continued the head of state. “Do you think that our compatriots who voted for a socialist or environmentalist deputy, they asked him to carry a majority with RN deputies, they asked him to table a motion of censure which – on purpose – was changed by this baroque coalition of the Nupes?”, he developed, visibly reassembled.

“What makes me angry is cynicism and disorder,” added Emmanuel Macron. “They showed one thing: they are not on the side of merit, order, work, solution, progress, they are on the side of disorder and cynicism. And I tell you: that will lead nowhere. These people will not know how to govern together tomorrow”.

“There is neither today nor tomorrow, in our country an alternative majority because it is based on inconsistency, the alliance of extremes”, he hammered again.

“Tie Hands”

Emmanuel Macron then said he wanted “an alliance” with the LR deputies and those of the centrist Liot group for the adoption of texts in the Assembly, believing that they had “sent a clear message” by not voting the motions of censorship tabled on the budgets. “I think that with these parliamentarians, who today are not in the majority, the government and the majority in the Assembly have an interest in working to pass the reform on work, the reform on pensions , the reform on immigration that we are going to do, the reform that we are going to do on renewable energies. And yes, I wish there was an alliance,” he said.

Do we need a coalition, as Nicolas Sarkozy recently advocated? “It was sought by the Prime Minister at the start of the five-year term, there was no wish from either side,” replied the president. Emmanuel Macron has not confirmed his intention to dissolve the Assembly, as he had mentioned during a dinner at the Élysée Palace with regard to pension reform, in the event of his majority being outvoted.

“But why would you want me tonight to tie my hands and say I would do this or that?” he replied. Emmanuel Macron mentioned other “means which are in the hands of the president”, such as “49.3 today” or the use of a referendum.
