PARIS (Reuters) – Emmanuel Macron spoke by telephone on Wednesday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with whom the French president stressed the urgency of delivering the necessary aid to the population of Gaza and the need to work to a lasting ceasefire, the Elysée announced.
The French presidency indicated that France would work “in the coming days”, in conjunction with Jordan, to carry out humanitarian operations in the Gaza Strip, besieged for more than eleven weeks by the Israeli army in retaliation for the Hamas attack on October 7.
Affirming “once again France’s attachment to the security of Israel”, Emmanuel Macron expressed to Benjamin Netanyahu “his deepest concern in the face of the very heavy civilian toll and the situation of absolute humanitarian emergency” in the Palestinian enclave as the fighting “intensifies”, reported the Elysée.
He also “insisted on the importance for Israel to take all necessary measures to put an end to the violence committed by certain settlers against Palestinian civilians, as well as to any new colonization project in the West Bank,” added the presidency. French.
