PARIS (Reuters) – Emmanuel Macron urged Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday to put an end to violence by Jewish settlers against Palestinian civilians in the West Bank, according to the Elysée report of a telephone conversation between the two leaders.

“The President of the Republic (…) recalled that Israel must take the necessary measures to put an end to the violence committed by settlers against Palestinian civilians in the West Bank,” declares the Elysée.

Emmanuel Macron also reminded the Israeli Prime Minister of France’s solidarity with the Jewish state “in its fight against terrorism” after the Hamas attack on October 7 in the south of Israel, while insisting on the protection of civilians in the Gaza Strip, where the Israeli army intervenes, and “the importance of achieving a lasting ceasefire”.

“Until then, it is crucial that the civilian population of Gaza receives the aid they urgently need and that the Kerem Shalom crossing point is reopened for this purpose,” declares the Elysée.
