Macron’s popularity down sharply according to a poll

Emmanuel Macron’s popularity rating fell eight points in March to its lowest level since the “yellow vests” crisis at the end of 2018, with 29% of French people satisfied with his action, according to an Ifop-Fiducial poll for Sud radio and Paris Match published on Tuesday.

After a small rebound the previous month in this barometer to reach 37% approval, the decline in popularity continues for the Head of State who suffers from a hostile political and social climate for his government and his majority since the appeal at 49.3 to have the pension reform adopted.

Since his first election in 2017, Emmanuel Macron has never been so unpopular, except in December 2018 (23%) and January 2019 (28%) during the yellow vests movement.

Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne also saw her popularity drop, but more moderately (-2 points in one month), to reach 29%, the lowest point since her appointment in May 2022.

Survey conducted on March 30 and 31 with a sample of 1,010 people representative of the French population aged 18 and over, according to the quota method, with a margin of error of between 1.4 and 3.1 points.
