Mad Max: after Furiosa, George Miller is already working on the continuation of his universe

On May 22, the world will be able to lay eyes on Furiosathe prequel film to Mad Max: Fury Road. Still headed by George Miller, the feature film should certainly not be the last of this saga launched in 1979. In an interview given to our colleagues atEntertainment Weeklythe Australian director has indeed provided some interesting information.

For memory, Furiosa takes place chronologically before the events of Mad Max: Fury Road. The film will thus serve asorigin story to the eponymous character, here played by Anya Taylor-Joy and not Charlize Theron. It will therefore be a question of learning more about him before his meeting with Max (Tom Hardy), who could well return to the center of Miller’s next project.

The filmmaker explains that in preparation for Mad Max: Fury Road, and to help the cast and crew better understand the characters, the entire story of Furiosa and Max was written. Including what happens to the hero before the events of Mad Max: Fury Road.

Towards another Fury Road prequel?

“The writers know what happens to Max during this year, and we have a full story on that, which I would love to do one day if I get the chance” says Miller.

Relaunched on this project, he then adds: “We’re definitely working on it. And, like I said, we wrote this whole thing as a novel, and now that we have an opportunity, we’re going to write it as a screenplay, and we’ll go from there.“

For those who would have preferred a sequel to Mad Max: Fury Road, we will probably have to give up on it, or at best be patient. It remains to be seen whether Tom Hardy will return to play the badass and taciturn character, initially played by Mel Gibson in the original trilogy.

Will George Miller take so much time for his next Mad Max film? Let’s hope not, because between the releases of Fury Road and of Furiosanine years have passed… To be continued.
