Madonna: Instagram deletes video because of false statements about Corona

Madonna shared a video on Instagram with a conspiracy theory about the corona pandemic. The online service deleted the video.

Instagram continues to act against content with misleading statements about the corona pandemic. Now a video of pop diva Madonna (61, "Madame X") was censored and later deleted, which contained questionable information about the controversial corona remedy hydroxychloroquine and which the singer had posted on her Instagram page.

In the video, the pediatrician Dr. Stella Immanuel, she successfully cured 350 corona patients with the malaria drug hydroxychloroquine. As the British daily "The Guardian" reports, Madonna wrote to the video that a vaccine against the coronavirus had already been found and tested. It should have been available for months, but people should "be controlled by fear" so that the "rich get richer and the poor get poorer," said the singer.

Post was censored

Instagram initially censored the post with the note "false information". Hours later, the post was deleted because it "made false claims about healing and prevention methods for Covid-19," a platform spokeswoman said. Users who have commented on, reacted to or shared the post have been redirected to reliable sources of information about the virus.

Immanuel's video had previously been removed from other networks such as Twitter, YouTube and Facebook. US President Donald Trump (74) also shared a similar video from Immanuel on Twitter on Monday (July 27), which was subsequently deleted by the short message service.
