On Wednesday, on the 3rd day of the Maëlys murder trial, Nordahl Lelandais was questioned for the first time by the Isère Assize Court. This Thursday, the latter will begin to examine the facts with the hearing of the gendarmes who carried out the investigation. And we know a little more about the personality of the dog handler and his life course. Because for long hours, he answered specific questions from the court.
The “new Nordahl”
“In 2017 I was completely lost, my friends were moving forward, I was staying put,” repeated the accused. The culmination of several years of small failures, nothing major but which leaves an impression of failure, sums up his lawyer. Discharged from the army at the age of 21, he does odd jobs with no future, even when he sets up his canine training micro-company, his passion. “I did not give myself the means”, confesses Nordahl Lelandais. At the helm, he recounts his days: “Coffee, pornographic sites, cocaine, coffee”.

The accused, sometimes moved, finds it difficult to come up with explanations that seem agreed. “You talk but you don’t say much about what you carry inside your soul,” Maelys’ father’s lawyer points out to him.
The former dog handler prefers to insist on the “new Nordahl” who is evolving in detention. “I’m deconstructed, I’m trying to rebuild myself, to understand, I don’t want to be that person anymore,” he says in repentance. A civil party lawyer still thinks he is dangerous: he has a phone in detention and would consult child pornography videos. “Never!” retorted Nordahl Lelandais.
