The photos of the reconstruction of the tragedy of the terrible murder of Maëlys De Araujo were revealed yesterday at the Grenoble Assize Court. The certainties were immediately swept away. Forensic pathologists, on the other hand, put forward untenable hypotheses.
We almost almost believed Nordahl Lelandais when he claimed to have dealt a single fatal blow to the face of Maëlys de Araujo. The murderer has since changed his version of the facts and agreed to be filmed for a few seconds. In the video, Lelandais first stares, then turns his head to the right and lands a volley of punches, arms outstretched and clings to the steering wheel again. The violence, of “great intensity” according to doctor Michel Mazevet, is such that the dummy’s head has come off. Worse: it confirms the results of the autopsy during which were found three bills (two at the mandible and one at the level of the nasal bones).
Asked by videoconference, the pathologist argues that Maëlys probably passed away because of the neurological damage caused by the blows of Nordahl Lelandais. A question is then on everyone’s lips: did the victim have time to feel the pain? Immediate death seems ‘very unlikely’. The ordeal could even have lasted ” thirty or forty minutes according to the coroner who is trying to put the pieces of a sordid puzzle back in place. The hypotheses remind us that the Maëlys affair is above all a horrible story of kidnapping and death, that of a dead girl delivered wildly to nature in a small cave in the heart of the Chartreuse.
The hypotheses of the medical examiners
If the specialists discovered on the skeleton of Maëlys “trimming marks” caused by animals, an engineer from the Criminal Research Institute of the National Gendarmerie found much worse: a ” horizontal tear along the entire length of the fabric, between the top and the bottom of the dress » no doubt caused by “a sharp or cutting object such as a knife or cutter”, the kind of tool prized by human beasts like Lelandais. During this plunge into horror, strands of hair cut at their ends also reappear, while Maëlys had gone to the hairdresser for a braiding on the morning of the wedding. Did Lelandais take himself for Edward Scissorhands? ” Not at all. Truly, I have no explanation. “Where are the missing parts of the dress or even the panties of Maëlys? Nordahl Lelandais could very well have thought of making them disappear. It’s a possibility… that we can’t confirm for the moment!
