Mafia series: "The Sopranos" and "Good Fellas" makers team up

The brains behind the successful mafia hits "The Sopranos" and "Good Fellas" are working together on a new mafia series.

All fans of mafia films and series should now prick their ears: the makers of the award-winning hit series "The Sopranos" (1999-2007) and the cult film "Good Fellas – Three Decades in the Mafia" (1990) are teaming up to to launch a brand new series about a gangster family. As the US magazine "Deadline" reports, the hitherto untitled series comes from the pen of "Good Fellas" screenwriter Nicholas Pileggi (87), who, together with director Martin Scorsese (77), made the film with Robert De Niro (76) back then.

The upcoming series will therefore be produced by "The Sopranos" and "Broadwalk Empire" makers Terence Winter (59). Also on board: star producer Brian Glazer (69), who due to the success of the Russell Crowe film "A Beautiful Mind – Genius and Madness" can even call himself an Oscar winner. So far, nothing is known about possible actors.

The series is said to be inspired by Pileggi's chronology of organized crime in the United States and tell historically-based stories of the mafia from the perspective of a family. The issue of corruption and bribery by the state and authorities should also make up a large part of the series.
