Maggots in the hair and droppings: seven children discovered in frightening conditions

On April 23, seven severely neglected children were discovered in a home in West Rockhill Township, Pennsylvania. The family fridge was padlocked and one of the children had maggots in his hair.

A discovery that sends shivers down your spine. Last April, seven children living in unsanitary conditions were discovered in a home in West Rockhill Township, Pennsylvania. According to the CNN news channel, the children, aged 4 to 16, were terribly neglected by their parents, who had padlocked the fridge in their home and called them “bins on legs”.

It all starts on April 23. Informed of the presence of three children in an abandoned trailer in West Rockhill Township, the Pennridge Regional Police send several of their officers to the scene. The police decide to take the children home, far from suspecting what they will discover. Behind the door of the family home, the agents observe “deplorable living conditions”. They notice in particular that the fridge is padlocked. Without any embarrassment, parents explain that they use this device to prevent their children from “fly” food. They then go so far as to nickname them “trash cans on legs“.

Two dozen rats, snakes and fecal matter

Indignant, the police informed the social services, who returned to the scene a few hours later. Here is the shock. Four more children are discovered holed up in a bedroom. They cohabit with two dozen rats, snakes and dogs, on a ground covered with excrement.

All seven children were taken to hospital and removed from the custody of their parents, Pennridge Regional Police Chief Paul T. Dickinson Jr. said. Medical examinations revealed that all the children were underweight, probably malnourished and very unhygienic. Two of the children had to have their heads shaved because there were so many knots“, explains Paul T. Dickinson Jr. According to WPVI, one of the children even had maggots on his scalp. Moreover, all seem to have received a very basic level of education. “None of the seven children have ever been to school and lack basic knowledge, such as their birthday.

Arrested, their parents, Shane William and Chrystal Robertson, are prosecuted on seven counts of endangering the well-being of children.
