An earthquake struck near Lake Wägital in the canton of Schwyz on the night of Tuesday.
The earthquake was probably felt throughout Switzerland.
The earth shook at 2:34 a.m. on Tuesday night. The epicenter of the quake is about eleven kilometers southwest of Einsiedeln. According to current information, the earthquake had a magnitude of 4.4, according to the Swiss Seismological Service at ETH Zurich when asked.

With an earthquake of this magnitude, minor damage is possible in isolated cases near the epicenter. Nothing is known yet about any damage. The Swiss Seismological Service registers around ten to 20 earthquakes a year with magnitudes of 2.5 or higher. Such quakes could be felt by the population.
